Tell us a little about yourself and how you got into the beauty industry
Hi, I’m Laura, an SPMU artist and educator based in Newport, South Wales. I’m a proud mum to three boys who are my absolute world and definitely keep me on my toes! When I’m not busy being a mum, you’ll usually find me working with my lovely clients in the world of semi-permanent makeup.
Why did you decide to train in SPMU?
I’ve been a semi-permanent makeup artist for nine years, but my journey actually started as a makeup artist. Creativity has always been a huge part of who I am, and I’ve always loved helping people feel confident and look their best. Moving into semi-permanent makeup felt like a natural progression—especially with my clients constantly encouraging me to take the leap!

What is your favourite part of your job?
As a single mother, this industry has given me something invaluable: flexibility. It has allowed me to build a successful career around my children while maintaining my independence and providing for my family. The combination of creativity, flexibility, and the opportunity to grow my income was what inspired me to train in semi-permanent makeup, and nine years later, I’ve never looked back.

What’s been your proudest moment of your career so far?
Today, I’m proud to run my own training academy in South Wales. Opening the academy is one of my greatest career achievements. When I trained nine years ago, there were very few local training opportunities available, meaning I had to travel for hours and spend time away from my children. I wanted to create something different for aspiring artists in South Wales.
For the past four years, I’ve been training students and helping them build their own businesses and careers in this incredible industry. Seeing people gain confidence, develop new skills, and create opportunities for themselves is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

What’s your favourite procedure to perform and why?
My favourite treatment to perform is Nano Stroke Brows. They’re highly detailed, technically challenging, and can take a long time to perfect—which is exactly why I love them. Every set is unique, and they constantly keep me learning and pushing my skills further.

What is your favourite Cosmedic Supplies product?
I’m also a huge fan of Luna cartridges. They’re incredibly sharp, the pigment flow is fantastic, and they offer excellent value for money. I also love the Hydragel—it’s amazing for soothing the skin post-procedure, and clients really appreciate the cooling effect. I even keep mine in the fridge for that extra refreshing touch!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
Looking ahead, in five years’ time I see myself doing exactly what I love: creating beautiful semi-permanent makeup results, training the next generation of artists, and continuing to grow within an industry I’m truly passionate about. I feel incredibly lucky to have found a career that brings me both happiness and fulfilment, and that’s a wonderful place to be.
